I’ve already presented a skills lab on drawing lines. Now we move on to more advanced techniques. Dotted lines are important when you want … to insert a pause in a sentence, or leave someone …… They’re important, so make sure you get them straight!

Even if you are extremely lucky, life will place many obstacles in your path – both literal and metaphorical. If one of those obstacles happens to be a river, this is a pretty handy trick to pull out of your back pocket …

essential skills lab – part 10: copyright maths

0

Now we live in a digital world, where the majority of content is delivered over the internets. But you don’t get something for nothing, and copyright ensures that this maxim holds true in the digital age. So it’s important to understand how the maths that drives copyright works. You can’t be a true netizen (I can’t believe my spellcheck accepts that as a valid word) without being copyright-math-numerate. Ted talks to the rescue:

essential skills lab – part 9: getting up

Life can throw many a curve ball. Often you fall down, but it’s not whether you fall down, it’s whether you can get back up. Getting back up can be hard, particularly if you’ve never practiced. So I think it’s important to get up at least once a day – preferably in the morning …

Religion seems to be a fundamental part of the human condition – don’t ask me why, because I don’t understand it at all. However, since pre-history, people across the globe have turned to religion to explain their own existence and/or non-existence. So being able to build a place to practice your religion would seem to be an essential skill. So here’s how to erect large monuments to whatever religion you may practice. Ironically, in order to erect his monument, the chap in the video had to build it on sandy ground …

essential skills lab – part 7: change a tyre

… well, a wheel really, cos the tyre’s on the wheel, and your changing the wheel, which incorporates the tyre – but that’s getting into technicalities that probably only interest tyre/wheel changing experts, like these guys:

… but don’t let those guys intimidate you. In the 25 years I’ve been driving, I’ve never had a flat tyre, and never had to change one. Knowing that this left me horribly vulnerable, I decided it was time to fill this glaring gap in my knowledge. Here, I’ll share with you some of my research materials:

essential skills lab – part 6: maths

Maths is really important. What’s the basic building block of maths? Numbers. Numbers are made up of 10 digits from 0 to 9. Remember those, and your well on your way to understanding really tricky mathematical theorems, and particle physics. For this demonstration, though I’ve decided to push you a bit by including the numbers 1-12 – throwing you in the deep end so to speak. If you’re a beginner, just concentrate on the first 10. Once you get good at these, move on to the last two. That’s it – don’t forget to credit me in your academic papers.

essential skills lab – part 5: making toast

0

Cooking is an essential skill. Did you know we’re the only animal on earth that cooks their food before eating it? The freaky thing about toast, is that it gets cooked twice (like those fancy potato chips) – once to make bread, and twice to make toast. Anyway, that’s probably getting a little technical. Toast is one of the four food groups, so it’s important to know how to make it.

Generally, if you want to go anywhere, you need to use your feet. If you need to use your feet, you generally need shoes. Shoes generally need to be tied to your feet, so they don’t fall off when you’re going somewhere. Therefore it is essential to know how to tie your shoes – just ask any two year old …
